Q.  What Is Leadership Springfield?
A.  Leadership Springfield is a nine-month program in which participants will gain enhanced leadership skills and in-depth exposure to critical issues affecting the Springfield area. Participants will meet community leaders and decision makers who will share their perspectiveson significant problems and opportunities. Some of the topics that will be covered in the curriculum include:

  • Business and Economic Development
  • Government
  • Social/Family Issues and Education
  • Aging and Health Care
  • Human Services
  • Law Enforcement and Justice
  • Arts, Religion and Philanthropy
  • Community Groups
  • Community History  

Q.  What Are The Benefits of Leadership Springfield?
A.  Leadership Springfield is a community leadership development program which benefits both the individual and the community. The program offers:

  • Visibility to individuals, businesses and involved organizations.
  • Promotion of a network of contacts among participants.
  • Completion of a team project which benefits the community, and promotes team building skills.
  • Enhancement of leadership skills and abilities.
  • Identification of community service opportunities.

Q.  When does Leadership Springfield Meet?
A.
  An eight-hour session will be held monthly October through May. Attendance at all scheduled meetings is required. Additional time for project work is to be scheduled apart from regular meetings. Seminars are typically located at facilities relating to that months program topic. 

Q.  How Can I Apply?
A.
  Participants are selected on the basis of demonstrated interest, achievement and commitment to community service. Up to 30 persons are selected from private, public and non-profit sectors representing a diversity in gender, social, economic and racial backgrounds. Applicants must be willing to commit the time required for all program sessions and project completions. Individuals must have the approval and fiscal commitment of the organization(s) they represent. Selection of participants is made by the Leadership Springfield Selection Committee on the basis of the written application.

Q.  What is Tuition?
A.
  Tuition for the program is $825. Scholarships are available. Tuition covers training, all materials and meals.
